What causes sensitive skin?
The skin barrier is the outermost protective layer of your skin, when this is aggravated skin is termed sensitive. Sensitive skin can be in our genes, but it can also be a reactive condition which flares up for various reasons. Allergies to food, pollutants or pollen can lead to sensitive skin, as can overuse of some beauty products and environmental factors such as extreme weather changes.
How to treat sensitive skin?
If sensitive skin is showing symptoms such as redness and irritation, then it is likely the top layer of skin barrier is damaged. Focus on healing and strengthening the skin barrier to help improve skin sensitivity. Use a gentle cleanser, serum for sensitive skin and always a protective and nourishing moisturiser to help calm and hydrate damaged skin.
How do you know if you have sensitive skin?
All skin types can become sensitive if the skin barrier is damaged. Some of the signs of sensitivity include reactive skin that is intolerant and becomes red, irritated, dry and uncomfortable. Sensitive skin is also prone to rashes, breakouts and dryness.
